Maggiano’s stuffed mushrooms are a classic, a comforting blend of rich flavors and textures. But today, we’re going to elevate this beloved dish, infusing it with global inspiration. We’ll call our creation: Mushroom Mondial.

Ingredients:

12 large cremini mushrooms, stems removed

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 pound ground lamb
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs, panko preferred
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup dry white wine
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 lemon, zested and juiced

  • Preparation Process:

    1. Prep the Mushrooms: Gently remove the stems from the mushrooms, reserving them for later.
    2. Create the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, ground lamb, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, garlic, oregano, thyme, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix well until thoroughly combined.
    3. Sauté the Mushroom Stems: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the reserved mushroom stems and sauté until browned.
    4. Assemble the Mushrooms: Stuff the mushroom caps with the meat mixture, pressing down firmly. Place the stuffed mushrooms in a baking dish.
    5. Create the Sauce: In the same skillet, add the white wine and deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits. Pour the wine mixture over the stuffed mushrooms.
    6. Bake to Perfection: Bake the stuffed mushrooms in a preheated 400°F oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the filling is cooked through and the mushrooms are golden brown.
    7. Finish with the Sauce: In a small saucepan, combine the heavy cream, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Heat over low heat until warm and slightly thickened. Pour the sauce over the baked mushrooms.
