2 pounds beef cube steak, cut into 1-inch cubes

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon cold water
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish
  • Crusty bread, for serving

  • Preparation:

    1. Sear the Steak: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the beef cubes with salt and pepper. Sear the beef cubes on all sides until browned.
    2. Combine Ingredients: Transfer the seared beef to a slow cooker. Add the onion, garlic, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, red wine, oregano, thyme, and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine.
    3. Cook: Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 4-6 hours.
    4. Thicken the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water. Slowly stir the slurry into the slow cooker. Cook for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
    5. Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with crusty bread.
