1.5 pounds ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)

  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 can (15 ounces) pineapple chunks, drained
  • 1 can (15 ounces) sliced water chestnuts, drained
  • 1 cup fresh pineapple, diced
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions

  • Preparation:

    1. Brown the Meat: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain off any excess grease.
    2. Sauté the Veggies: Add the onion, bell peppers, and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
    3. Create the Sauce: Stir in the beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, black pepper, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, and onion powder. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until thickened, about 10-15 minutes.
    4. Combine and Simmer: Add the pineapple chunks, water chestnuts, and fresh pineapple to the sauce. Stir in the browned beef, ensuring everything is well coated. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes, or until heated through.
    5. Serve and Enjoy: Serve your Hawaiian Surf and Turf over rice or noodles, garnished with chopped green onions.

    Total Time: Approximately 45 minutes
